Former Swift CEO joins stablecoin firm OpenTrade as chairman

2 outlets · CoinDesk · cryptobriefing.com

Lazaro Campos, the former Chief Executive Officer of Swift, has been appointed as chairman of OpenTrade.

This London-based stablecoin yield firm has reported that it currently holds $300 million in assets locked and manages over $1 billion in annual transaction volume.

OpenTrade, established in 2023, develops infrastructure enabling businesses to provide yield on stablecoins denominated in dollars and euros, which are backed by real-world assets.

The firm positions itself as a back-office solution, allowing fintechs, neobanks, or exchanges to offer returns on stablecoin balances without constructing the requisite compliance and operational machinery internally.

Institutional partners providing these yields to OpenTrade include JPMorgan, BlackRock, Franklin Templeton, and Fidelity.

This appointment follows a $17 million funding round that closed in May 2026, which increased the company's total financing to $32 million.

The investor base for OpenTrade features several crypto-native and venture entities, such as a16z Crypto, Circle, Mercury Fund, Notion Capital, AlbionVC, and CMCC Global.

The inclusion of Campos introduces expertise from the core of traditional cross-border payments into a company focused on alternative payment rails.

The company’s operational model emphasizes compliant infrastructure, sourcing returns from established asset managers and banks for partner firms to distribute under their own branding.

This development reflects a broader trend where market participants seek integrated solutions to offer yield features without building out extensive internal treasury or compliance departments.
