Stripe launches free instant B2B payments via business handles October 27

Stripe has rolled out free, instant business-to-business transfers utilizing a new Stripe Pay plug-in.

crypto.news

This feature permits enterprises to remit funds by referencing a company's profile handle. This launch coincides with Stripe's ongoing expansion of its digital wallet, stablecoin, and AI-agent payment offerings.

According to Stripe's October 27 announcement, firms can identify another entity via its Stripe profile and transfer capital without incurring a fee. The service is accessible via the Stripe Dashboard and the command-line interface, offering an alternative to inputting standard bank particulars for every payee.

A sender must possess a funded financial account, and the recipient requires a financial account linked to an existing Stripe profile, per the official documentation. Businesses can locate potential payees using a public handle, such as "@recipient," or a unique profile network identifier.

The plug-in incorporates verification steps to ensure the intended business is confirmed before payment authorization, mitigating the risk of misdirected funds. Furthermore, Stripe's payment instructions include a dry-run option for validating transfer specifics without executing the movement of money.

Company CEO Patrick Collison stated in an October 27 post that "account-to-account payments would become more important than person-to-person transfers."

Stripe's work on financial services for AI agents, showcased at its 2026 Sessions conference, includes agent-ready financial accounts enabling software agents to manage cash, issue cards, and pay invoices. The company has also introduced Link's wallet for agents, which offers single-use virtual cards.

Stripe's stablecoin business has grown through acquisitions of Bridge and Privy, alongside payment products designed for holding and transferring digital dollars. The Open USD stablecoin network saw Stripe's involvement in payment infrastructure in October, where Bridge acts as the issuer of OUSD.

The company has focused heavily on automated payments via Tempo, the blockchain developed with Paradigm. Its 2025 annual letter estimated that stablecoin payment volume reached approximately $400 billion that year, with B2B transfers comprising roughly 60% of that activity across the entire market.

Market participants are also observing that traditional banks are creating distinct systems for moving tokenized commercial-bank deposits, a development Stripe discussed in relation to enabling fund movements outside standard banking hours.

Why it matters

This development signals a continued push toward automated, account-to-account payments within enterprise finance. For readers interested in DeFi and L2s, this illustrates how established players are integrating programmable finance into mainstream business workflows. The focus on handles and APIs suggests a trend toward abstracted, non-traditional banking rails.
