This development places Robinhood in a complex position, as the firm previously supported the Global Dollar Network in 2024, which promotes Paxos’s competing USDG stablecoin.
The partnership extends beyond retail access; it also involves using RLUSD for Bitstamp settlements and adopting Ripple’s software for Robinhood’s treasury operations. Furthermore, the entities intend to introduce perpetual futures trading later this year.
Monica Long, president of Ripple, stated, “From bringing RLUSD to retail and institutional markets to helping Robinhood manage its own treasury operations, this partnership reflects growing institutional demand for integrated solutions that support customer-facing offerings and core financial operations.”
RLUSD, which launched in December 2024, has reached a market capitalization exceeding $2.5 billion. Currently, Robinhood reports 28.6 million funded customers.
The Global Dollar Network, established in 2024, facilitates distribution of USDG and revenue sharing for its members, including Kraken, Galaxy Digital, Anchorage Digital, and Bullish.
This collaboration signals a trend where institutional participants are seeking integrated solutions that bridge customer-facing services with core financial infrastructure.
Why it matters
This development highlights the complex competitive landscape among stablecoins and institutional adoption within regulated brokerage platforms. The coexistence of RLUSD and USDG in Robinhood's ecosystem signals a shift in how DeFi and traditional finance integrate these digital assets. Readers should watch how Robinhood balances its commitments to both competing stablecoin networks.
