Hyperliquid, Payward to use HYPE for CFTC-regulated HIP-3 markets, HYPE faces $75 floor threat
Payward, the parent entity of the crypto exchange Kraken, has announced plans to be the inaugural deployer regulated by the Commodities Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) on HIP-3 markets.
Hyperliquid stated on X that Payward intends to utilize Hyperliquid [HYPE] as the underlying infrastructure to launch perpetual futures markets for U.S. clients. This arrangement remains contingent upon receiving regulatory approval.
Bitnomial, which functions as Payward's CFTC-regulated designated contract market (DCM) and derivatives clearing organization (DCO), would be responsible for creating, administering, and handling the clearing and settlement of these markets.
The planned deployment will leverage HIP-3, which incorporates an optional deployer configuration for permissioned markets via this framework extension. Activation of these markets requires an onchain allowlist managed by the deployer.
In the preceding 24 hours, HYPE registered a 0.63% increase, though this short-term appreciation mirrored movements seen in Bitcoin [BTC] and the broader altcoin market.
Although HYPE bulls have seen a bullish trend throughout much of this year, the daily timeframe trend is currently facing considerable risk. The token price recently dipped to a local low of $74.5.
Key technical benchmarks, including the 100-day moving average at $75.61 and the bullish structure's anchor at $75.17, are currently under pressure. A closing below either of these levels on a daily session would signal a potential bearish trend reversal.
Despite the price correction across the last five weeks, the OBV indicates that selling pressure has not been excessive, as the volume indicator remains near yearly peaks, even as trading volume has decreased recently.
The bearish momentum displayed by the DEX altcoin since September has been somewhat mitigated by the lack of intense selling volume. While the 4-hour chart structure is bearish, the price has established the $74-$76 range as a current zone of steady demand.
The institutional interest from a major established entity like Kraken's parent suggests an integration of regulated financial instruments into decentralized finance protocols.
Why it matters
The integration of regulated entities like Payward into DeFi infrastructure like HIP-3 signals a significant maturation point for decentralized markets. Investors should watch if this institutional interest can stabilize the HYPE token price above key technical resistance levels.
