Akash Network proposes migration from Cosmos to Solana, vote open until November 2
Akash Network [AKT] has seen its mindshare increase by over 315% following discussions regarding a move to a different blockchain.
This altcoin maintains a substantial market capitalization exceeding $200 million, with current daily sentiment registering at 2.85 bullish. The protocol has submitted a new proposal to shift from its sovereign chain, Cosmos [ATOM], to the Solana [SOL] network.
Approval of this proposal would permit a 1:1 migration to SPL, but this action would not involve moving existing workloads. Voting remains open until November 2nd, with the "Yes" side currently holding a 98.41% lead. The rationale cited is that Solana is an environment where Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Networks (DePIN) already flourishes due to lower fees, greater user volume, and enhanced liquidity.
Specific details indicate that the supply and decimal values will remain unchanged, and the proposal outlines a two-year window for this one-way migration. The protocol's founder stated that the transition will begin in two weeks; however, current workloads will persist for 90 days post-transition before the original chain is deactivated.
This plan requires both governance approval and two independent audits. Furthermore, the marketplace cutover and the cessation of staking rewards necessitate a separate vote, with the official announcement scheduled for mid-November.
Akash Network's founder, Greg Osuri, expressed some reservation because the voting period was not yet concluded, noting, "There is still a small chance voters can change their decision but unlikely."
While this initiative prompts inquiry into the wisdom of the decision, it signals increasing operational costs associated with maintaining a proprietary chain.
Market participants are currently purchasing the token, as CoinGlass reports a Long/Short Ratio above 1.49 for both all accounts and top traders.
This shift toward Solana aligns with a broader trend where established infrastructure projects seek environments offering superior economic incentives and network adoption for decentralized applications.
Why it matters
This move signals a trend where the operational costs of maintaining sovereign chains are becoming prohibitive for DePIN projects. For readers tracking L2 and DeFi infrastructure, this highlights the growing pull of high-throughput, low-fee ecosystems like Solana. The success of this governance vote will set a precedent for other protocols considering chain migration.
